The paper went as far as to fire the journalist that wrote the original article. What are they so affraid of? It is time for a change in this world and the first step is to know what is going on, but when big business controles what we read, see in the news, or can hear on the radio it is up to us as a people to find the infomation ourselves. I have found a site that feels the same way I do about all the censorship and posts the things that most won't it is Change.org. Is it not the parents who are getting tickets for their children missing school too often, or misbehaving at school? Then why is it that schools fill like they have the right to tell parents how students should look right down to the hair cut, before they will be allowed at school. That is exactly what has happened to the parents of Taylor Pugh a 4 year old pre-kindergartner. His parents have been in a four month long battle with Mesquite ISD here in Texas over Taylor’s long hair. There is a dress code throughout Mesquite ISD, which says what students are allowed to wear to school and how their hair is to be kept. Mesquite ISD on its Web site says its code is in place because "students who dress and groom themselves neatly, and in an acceptable and appropriate manner, are more likely to become constructive members of the society in which we live." The question at hand is, if it is not interfering with the teaching process, or the learning process why does the length of one’s hair matter? Who has the right to say what length a student’s hair should be, the school, the parents, or the student?
The school district says that “students who dress and groom themselves neatly, and in an acceptable and appropriate manner, are more likely to become constructive members of the society in which we live." This statement is a matter of their opinion. It might be different to infringe on the constitutional rights of the student and parents if it were for safety, or health issues. There are many good reasons for having a dress code for student clothing, or having school uniforms. Mesquite ISD does not state any other reason for the strict dress code, and strict enforcement of the dress code. Some will argue that it is to create a proper social structure, establish uniformity, or to teach students to obey the rules. The problem with this is that this is America where people of all ages have rights. The right to the pursuit of happiness is an inalienable right, and if you are too young to choose wisely it is the parents right to make the final decision as long as it does not bring harm to others.
So, who has the right to say what length a child’s hair is to be in order to go to a public school? It is not just the right to express one’s self, but the right to be free to be one’s self. If the main thing being taught to students in school today, is to fit a specific mold in how they look, and that the most important thing in this society is to fit in. Then as a nation the future is looking mighty grim. There should be more focus on academics, and how to help teachers teach effectively in the classroom. That way students could be more confident effective constructive members of society with the knowledge to make it a much better place. Do not deny students every ounce of individuality, for it is individuals coming together that build great nations. How many rights are we going to give away in the name of conformaty, or because the so called majorities opinion seams to matter more fhan our own indeviguality?

Example Post

This is my example post.
